Since its extensive makeover at the tail end of the 80s, Hayes Valley has gained quite the reputation as a hip locale. What’s more, Hayes Valley has convenient access to lively neighboring communities like the Fillmore District and South of Market (SoMA). But there’s plenty here to keep you well within the bounds of this trendy neighborhood.

Upscale boutiques, fine restaurants, and laid-back and vibrant haunts are within walking distance from any point in this half-mile-long community. To encourage local entrepreneurship, Hayes Valley doesn’t have big-name shops and chain stores. You’ll be treated to a slew of specialty boutiques that you won’t find anywhere else.

Being one of the few places that were mostly spared from the 1906 earthquake, Hayes Valley also has a few surviving homes that were built in the late 19th century.
